Dr. Mona Sharaan

Pathology

Dr. Mona Sharaan is a Board Certified pathologist in anatomical and cytopathology. At NSHOA, she is the laboratory director, overseeing the overall operation and administration of the laboratory. Dr. Sharaan is developing and performing molecular-based tests to aid in the diagnosis, management and prognosis of different types of cancers.

Dr. Sharaan received her BS and MD degree from Cairo University in Egypt and completed her residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. She completed her fellowship in cytopathology at Albert Einstein School of Medicine in Long Island. Dr. Sharaan completed an additional fellowship in molecular pathology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She has published several articles, co-written the book Molecular Genetic Pathology, and performed research in the areas of anatomical pathology, cytopathology, and molecular pathology.

Dr. Sharaan has been involved in numerous professional associations, committees, community services and societies. Dr. Sharaan has lectured at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Hofstra University and has participated in workshops hosted by the New Jersey Association of Cytology. She is also a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathology, the New Jersey Society of Pathologists, Bergen County Medical Society, Association of Molecular Pathology, and the American Society of Cytology.
